Coffee Shop Review: Loud’n Roasted in Ashburn, Virginia

Xak and I can’t resist driving past a coffee shop without stopping by or looking it up online later to see if we should add it to our “places to visit” list. This has even happened immediately after we’ve had afternoon tea… more than once!

I love coffee shops because I feel like my creativity level automatically increases the moment I enter. There’s something about being surrounded by local artwork, the row of pastries in a display case, and of course the wonderful smell of roasted beans.

While I associate tea with relaxation, I see coffee as motivation to get stuff done. Coffee shops are where I spent a lot of time doing my Korean homework and also writing song lyrics or aspirations and goals for the future.

So when Xak and I heard that there was a new coffee shop called Loud’n Roasted opening in Ashburn, we agreed to check it out “sometime soon.” However, the next day when Xak’s brother sent us a text proclaiming that it was good, we decided we had to bump it up the list.

About Loud’n Roasted

Loud’n Roasted is a family owned Northern Virginia based coffee company which first opened in Chantilly, Virginia in 2019. A second location in Ashburn opened in March 2025.

The name is pretty clever since Chantilly (the South Riding part) and Ashburn are both located in Loudoun County, however since that’s not explicitly stated in the name, they could theoretically open additional locations outside the county without causing confusion. (Imagine a place called “Falls Church Coffee” opening in Winchester. Potential Confusion, right?)

One of the unique offerings for Loud’n Roasted are their monthly seasonal coffee flights featuring two hot or iced flavored lattes and two nitro cold brews with the option to be prepared dairy free. The moment I shared this info with Xak, he was grabbing the car keys.

The Loud’n Roasted in Ashburn is open from 8-3 on weekdays and 9-3 on weekends. For our first visit, we decided to go on a Saturday morning in April.

Interior and Decor

We arrived right as the shop opened at 9 AM. The parking lot for the overall shopping center was fairly empty (in comparison to what I’ve seen in the past) with the majority of the cars strategically parked in front of the coffee shop.

There was some outdoor seating along with a chalkboard easel sign listing out the hours.

The cafe was very bright, white, clean, and modern, however the left side was noticeably dark with a lot of empty tables and benches. I then realized that the shop is actually connected to the Manhattan Pizzeria next door… as in physically connected without walls. The “extra seating” I saw was actually the seating for the pizza place. It makes a lot more sense for a gumball and claw machines to belong to a pizza place versus a coffee shop.

There was coffee beans and apparel available for purchase on opposite walls leading to the checkout counter.

The front of the shop has tables with long bench seating along the wall. A few additional seats are also available in the back next to the hallway leading to the restrooms.

Even though the shop had just opened, there were people standing around waiting for their drinks, sitting at the tables, and also waiting in line to order.

Menu and Food Counter

As Xak and I got in line, we saw a large digitally displayed menu to the left of the register listing out the available drinks, flavors, and milk options.

Although my reliable go to at a coffee shop is usually a mocha, I am starting to feel strange excitement whenever I see pistachio lattes as an option.

Sadly the coffee flights are only available on weekdays, so Xak needed to find something else. Since he rarely orders the same thing (with the exception of Butter Pecan at Dunkin), I had a feeling he might need a bit more time to look at the menu.

Directly next the register was the showcase of pastries I was eager to investigate. Although not as large as most other coffee shops, croissants and muffins were available. In my opinion, these are essentials for coffee shops!  The other essential for me is a doughnut. (Our blog name is “scones and doughns” after all)

There were also two covered cake stands which protected two types of coffee cake: one with nuts and one without. I like coffee cake, but I don’t feel like I eat enough of it. When it was our turn to order, I asked the employee what the cake was and learned that it was walnut. He didn’t have to convince me too much to add it to my order.

Xak, after much thought, chose to have a Nutella latte and a Nutella croissant. He must like Nutella or something.

We were asked if we wanted our food warmed up, which we declined. No need to delay eating yumminess.

After paying for our order, we stepped aside with our pastries so others could order.

Seating Area

Since the tables close to the entrance were already occupied, Xak and I headed for the seating area along the wall next to the pick up counter which had room for four.

Behind us was a wall with a painted Loud’n Roasted sign and an area to get some water and throw away trash.

Unfortunately this area was in close proximity to a speaker that blared out music, but the music wasn’t bad and there weren’t any commercials in between songs, so that’s a plus.

Food and Drinks

In a fairly short time, our drinks were ready. Although my drink was prepared in a to-go cup, it was left uncovered and I was pleased to see some latte art on top. I love those little things. After taking about 50 pictures of everything, we were very excited to dig in.

I have visited my fair share of coffee shops where the first few sips of a pistachio latte will taste like pistachio and then starts to become muddled with barely any nutty essence. The pistachio latte here tasted like pistachio while I enjoyed the entire drink.

Strangely enough I’m not a huge fan of nuts, although I’ve been known to consume almonds during a snacky mood. The Loud’n Roasted employee had done a good job of selling the cake to me. I had actually chosen this cake over a chocolate croissant. Even Xak had been surprised. The cake though was very nice and I think I made a good choice.

As I was enjoying my nutty flavored breakfast, Xak was enjoying his Nutella exclusive experience. We exchanged our orders briefly to share like we always do, and I got a bite of Nutella croissant washed down with a sip of the Nutella latte. I’m not Nutella obsessed, but I can see the appeal.

As we finished, we swept up the crumbs and threw our trash in the bin discussing when we could return again, this time on a weekday, to experience a coffee flight.

The Weekday Coffee Flight

Two weeks later, Xak and I were back!

Weekday hours are different (opens at 8 instead of 9), likely to handle the work crowd making a stop before heading into the office. We decided to wait until 10 AM to avoid a potential mad rush.

Surprisingly, there were way more people than we expected, even more than what we saw over the weekend. Tables were full and there was a group standing near the pickup counter. Luckily, the same wall seating next to the speaker that Xak and I sat at previously was open. I guess speakers aren’t a bad thing after all if it means open seating for us. 😏

We got in line to place our order. For today, Xak was going to get the coffee flight ($15~) and a chocolate muffin. I decided on the Hazelnut Swirl latte and the chocolate croissant that I wanted to get on our previous visit. After placing the order, we headed over to our new friend, Speaker, and sat down. Since the coffee flight contains four different drinks, it would take a while before we’d get to drink anything.

When our order was ready, Xak went to retrieve his coffee flight while I grabbed my latte to join the muffin and croissant that we already laid out on napkins. The coffee flight had the following flavors for the month of May:

  • White Chocolate Macadamia Nitro
  • Twix Nitro
  • Almond Mocha Latte
  • Lavender White Mocha Latte

Out of the four, the most surprising one was the lavender white mocha latte. In my experience, floral notes and coffee/tea don’t always work however Xak enjoyed this one quite a bit. My favorite was the White Chocolate Macadamia Nitro which was also a bit of a surprise since I don’t think this is a drink I would have normally ordered.

The almond mocha latte tasted like a nutty mocha which was good, but not too memorable. (Personally, I think “almonds” are the “vanilla” of nuts. 😄) The Twix Nitro didn’t taste how we expected (like a Twix bar). There was some subtle caramel flavor, but it tasted predominantly like a chocolatey cold brew coffee.

Both of us enjoyed our pastries and Xak and I discussed when we’ll be making our own oversized chocolate muffins and chocolate croissants. Our list of “Things we want to bake” is pretty long so it might be. awhile. Looks like in the meantime, we should return next month to pick some up and while we’re there, have the new monthly coffee flight 😄
